Pope Spells It Out For Pelosi

In the way that many people "cherry-pick" what they like in the Bible while disobeying or disbelieving the rest, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi does the same with Catholicism with regards to the life issue. Her pro-death stand on abortion is not looked upon favorably by the Vatican, and is likely the reason why her visit with Pope Benedict XVI today was limited to 15 minutes with no reporters or photographers. My first confession took longer than that.

The Vatican released the following statement:

"His Holiness took the opportunity to speak of the requirements of the natural and moral law and the Church's consistent teaching on the dignity of human life from conception to natural death, which enjoins all Catholics, and especially legislators, jurists and those responsible for the common good of society, to work in cooperation with all men of goodwill in creating a just system of laws capable of protecting human life at all stages of its development."

What on Earth did she expect him to say?

When the visit was over, Pelosi did not acknowledge the Pope's remarks on the life issue, but instead complimented him on other issues popular with Democrats like poverty, hunger, and global warming. See? Cherry picking.

  1. Folks like Pelosi are often referred to as "cafeteria Catholics," who stroll through the line of Catholic dogmas and teachings and put only what appeals to them personally on their trays. It's a travesty that pro-abort pols like Pelosi, Kennedy, Kerry, et al, are allowed by their respective equivocating bishops to continue to claim to be "Catholics."

  2. Rome itself, once the Bishops of the US had failed to curtail this movement in Congress which goes back decades to Cuomo and Ferraro,...Rome itself is now negligent as to doing anything with teeth against these people and as a result they now number not several but over a hundred in Congress. If the canons of canon law are insufficient, change them. A centuries long approach to problems is valid in areas like liturgy where there is no emergency. Life is an emergency and abortion is now infallibly condemned in section 62 of Evangelium Vitae. This is no longer a problematical area and we don't need a Pope lecturing Pelosi; we need a Pope doing something about her with decisiveness or we'll be reading about these lectures til the year 2099.
Right now a teenager who has one abortion is excommunicated latae sententiae (automatically)...yet a pol who promotes choice verbally for thousands suffers nothing...nada. Truman said the buck stops here...he meant at the top of the subsidiarity pile....in our case with the Pope who has supreme and immediate power over all churches according to the canons. Fine the Bishops failed. That means the person above the Bishops should have seen that.... like 15 years ago.... and done something.
