Former North Carolina Senator and patriot, Jesse Helms passed away early this morning of natural causes at age 86. How fitting it is that he would die on July 4th, of all days, just like John Adams and Thomas Jefferson.
A polarizing figure but a decent and very polite man, is how many of his colleagues have described him. "Senator No" was his nickname among mostly Democrats, but he fought on the right side of issues like abortion, downsizing government, gun control, and others that we still fight over today.
Like Ronald Reagan he was once a Democrat, but switched parties when his political philosophy was no longer welcome among members of the old party. A staunch ally of Reagan and all things conservative, former Senator Jesse Helms will be missed.

I totally agree, Matt. I heard a local CBS radio affiliate describe Helms as an "enemy of civil rights," which really burned my butt, and the "polarizer" epithet is in the same category. Truth is, Jesse was a man of political, fiscal and social conservative principles, and he fought long, hard and effectively for them.
ReplyDeleteI pray he's enjoying his deserved reward in heaven ("Well done, thou good and faithful servant"), despite the disgraceful liberal effort to pee on his grave.
Hey was a patriot, and boy did he get the lefties fired up!
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a great 4th!
