So why not here? Should we just throw in the towel and ignore all issues like this one simply because of recent history? Let the mission work begin on all levels!

Thanks for your input, whoever you are...Matthttp://stblogustine.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8067827827765778211.post-82356189136128100272009-05-05T15:27:00.000-05:002009-05-05T15:27:00.000-05:00Perhaps if the bishops had shown a clear and unfli...Perhaps if the bishops had shown a clear and unflinching leadership of US Catholics for the last couple of generations, it would not have come to this pathetic point of criticizing an honorary degree. Notre Dame has a history of inviting first-year Presidents, just as the Basilica of St. John Lateran has a history of making the French head of state its honorary canon (Sarkozy is twice-divorced and pro-choice). Yet B16 didn't do anything to deviate from this status quo, and I haven't heard of a virulent grassroots movement flooding Rome with images of aborted babies. The bishops should focus on shepherding the churches in their care, and reconciling alienated Catholics. Instead of pandering to groupies, there is mission work to do. Criticizing Notre Dame doesn't advance that.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8067827827765778211.post-82607001393833516422009-05-05T13:44:00.000-05:002009-05-05T13:44:00.000-05:00I think it may look worse to join the list late th...I think it may look worse to join the list late than not at all.
